Speech therapy provided in a telehealth format is eligible for reimbursement as described in the SHARS Handbook. In SameGoal, the telehealth consent form describes the following:
- Telehealth services to be provided
- Expected benefits
- Possible risks
- Additional information, if any
Descriptions include information about telepractice published by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. The form captures that the parent/guardian or adult student understands:
- Services will not be provided in person
- Risks and benefits
- Laws that protect the privacy of student educational records, including FERPA, apply
- Regular attendance is needed for services to be effective and progress monitored
- Information provided
- Right to withhold or withdraw consent for telehealth services
Finally, the form captures:
- Whether the parent/guardian or adult student grants informed consent
- Signature information
