Parents or educators may refer students to be evaluated for accelerated placement. In order for a student to be evaluated, the school must obtain parental consent. Students can be placed in the following acceleration tracks:
Single subject acceleration
Whole grade acceleration
Early graduation (different than a student graduating early due to completing all requirements early)
Each district has their own process for evaluating students for acceleration. Reach out to a district representative to ask what the policy is for your district.
Whether or not the student qualifies for acceleration, you must notify the parents of the evaluation results.
Steps
To notify the parents:
Create an Acceleration Eligibility Notice.
Select whether or not the student qualifies for accelerated placement. If the student qualifies, indicate which placement they qualify for.
Provide any additional information and contact information.
Share the document with the parents and mark it complete.
If the student qualifies for acceleration, once the eligibility notice is completed:
The student will be enrolled in the program.
You will need to complete a Written Acceleration Plan within 30 days.
If a student does not qualify for acceleration, they will not be unenrolled from the program because they could still potentially qualify for gifted learners.
