Early Childhood Special Education

Children with disabilities ages 3-5 are eligible to receive Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) services from the school. These children often transition from Early Childhood Intervention (ECI).

While a child receives ECSE services, most documentation will be the same as a typical special education workflow (Ex: Initial Referral to Special Education, Annual IEP Review). However, you will also need to complete a Child Outcomes Summary Form:

• Once, when the child enters ECSE
• Once, when the child exits ECSE
• Optionally, annually

In this form, you will provide basic information about the services the child is receiving and you'll summarize their social-emotional skills, how they acquire and use knowledge and skills, and how they take actions to meet their own needs.

This form is used to compare the child's current fuctioning with what is expected for the child's age and to see how the child trends over time.
